Presented in partnership with Limelight Hotel Aspen.

Join Aspen Historical Society to experience skiing’s illustrious past in the Aspen/Snowmass area. This community film series will feature a wide range of vintage films from the Aspen Historical Society collection that were recently digitized and being shown for the first time on the big screen! Spanning several decades, the visual histories bring retro skiing to life! Food and beverage specials offered at the Limelight bar may be enjoyed during the screenings.

Just a Matter of Time (1976) (26 minutes) Produced by Jalbert Productions, this documentary film about World Cup ski racing focuses on the Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbühel, Austria, the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics, and America’s Downhill in Aspen. Featured in the film are Andy Mill (USA), Franz Klammer (AUT), Bernhard Russi (SUI), Herbert Plank (ITA), and Rosie Mittermaier (AUT).


Welcome to Aspen (1984) (21 minutes) Produced by Rodney Jacobs and Freewheelin’ Films, this promotional film is hosted by Andy Mill and Greg Lewis. They tour Aspen in a Unicorn Booksellers hot air balloon and experience all that the area has to offer, from shopping in Aspen and on the Snowmass Mall, skiing, and dining around town, to Wintersköl fireworks, ski joring, and more. Featured in the film are Andy Mill, Greg Lewis, Ray Smalls, Ann Vores, Julie Kennedy, Judy Green, Deb Moore, Alex Halperin, Leon Fell, and ski racers Phil Mahre, Steve Podborski, Franz Klammer, and Bill Johnson.


Aspen Skiing Company Orientation Film (1986) (13 minutes) Produced by Aspen Skiing Company for their 40th anniversary, this promotional film provides a brief history of the area, from silver mining to early skiing to recent improvements including the Silver Queen Gondola. The narrator also discusses developments around town, specifically to Victorian buildings.
