Winter Music Recital Series: Simone Porter & Hsin-I Huang

  • Harris Concert Hall 960 North 3rd Street Aspen, CO, 81611 United States (map)

Recognized as an emerging artist of impassioned energy, interpretive integrity, and vibrant communication, AMFS alumna and emerging star Simone Porter returns to the beautiful Harris Concert Hall to close out the Winter Music series. An artist considered to be on the “cusp of a major career” (The Los Angeles Times), Porter made her professional solo debut at age 10 and was the recipient of a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant.

For her Aspen recital, Porter explores solo violin repertoire that contrasts old and new. Composed in the late 1600s, Biber’s Passacaglia elevated the standard of violin music of the time and is likely to have partly inspired Bach’s Chaconne. This jewel of the Baroque period is presented between a selection of contemporary works, including a recently premiered work by the Indian-American composer Reena Esmail.

Fellow AMFS alumna Hsin-I Huang joins Porter for Franck’s exquisite Violin Sonata in A major—a classic work of violin repertoire widely considered to be the among the finest musical pairings of violin and piano ever written.

Close out the 2022 Winter Music season in style with this virtuosic, elegant evening of music!
