Presented in partnership with Limelight Hotel Aspen.

Join Aspen Historical Society to experience skiing’s illustrious past in the Aspen/Snowmass area. This community film series will feature a wide range of vintage films from the Aspen Historical Society collection that were recently digitized and being shown for the first time on the big screen! Spanning several decades, the visual histories bring retro skiing to life! Food and beverage specials offered at the Limelight bar may be enjoyed during the screenings.

One for the Money (1973) (13 minutes) Sponsored by Demetre Ski Sweaters and produced by Fat City Films, this documentary about professional ski racing is narrated by Spider Sabich. The film features Sabich and other racers including Tyler Palmer, Hank Kashiwa, and Jean Claude Killy, as well as brief shots of Kiki Cutter and Claudine Longet.


Winter of ’74 (1974) (26 minutes) Produced by Jalbert Productions and sponsored by Olympia Brewing Co and TWA from Modern Talking Pictures, this 29-minute film features skiers Mike King, Chris Curtis, and Scott Magrino hotdogging at Aspen, Vail, Jackson Hole, Snowbird, Breckenridge, Crested Butte, Steamboat, Winter Park, Sun Valley, and Taos.


Return to Aspen (1987) (22 minutes) This promotional film for Aspen Skiing Company was produced and directed by Dick Durrance. It features Fritz Benedict and Bill Dunaway discussing what makes Aspen attractive as a place to live, a brief history of Aspen, images and film footage from the Aspen Historical Society archives, and footage of 1987 Aspen, including the new Silver Queen Gondola, restaurants, and shops. There is footage of the 1950 FIS World Championships and the 1987 Winternational America’s Downhill. The evolution of ski lifts, travel, ski fashion and ski equipment are covered, as well as Wintersköl activities, hot air ballooning, cross country skiing, and more.
